Good News & Bad News
I am very selective about the information and news I put in. Especially even more during these pandemic times. Media is not designed to feed you “current” news. It is designed to keep you fearful and anxious about the world situation. That’s what keeps their wallets full. There is a famous saying that, ”Perception is reality.” And by creating a perception of scarcity and uncertainty, the current-day media is able to grab our attention as fear prompts quick and reflexive clicks.
Today, I came across two pieces of inspiring news that mainstream media would never ever publish.
1. A̳m̳p̳u̳t̳e̳e̳ ̳w̳h̳o̳ ̳c̳a̳n̳ ̳o̳n̳l̳y̳ ̳w̳a̳l̳k̳ ̳f̳o̳r̳ ̳2̳0̳ ̳m̳i̳n̳u̳t̳e̳s̳ ̳a̳t̳ ̳a̳ ̳t̳i̳m̳e̳ ̳c̳l̳i̳m̳b̳s̳ ̳E̳n̳g̳l̳a̳n̳d̳’̳s̳ ̳T̳h̳r̳e̳e̳ ̳H̳i̳g̳h̳e̳s̳t̳ ̳P̳e̳a̳k̳s̳. Wow! We put ourselves under immense pressure when we play by societal rules of success. “I have to complete my graduation by the time I am 21,” or, “I have to buy my own house before I turn 30 (even if it means I am under a huge debt)” Who has set these timelines? And why do you have to play by them? Setting goals is great, but not under pressured deadlines that sets us up for failure and unfulfillment. So what if instead of setting 6-monthly or annual goals, we create goals that give us plenty of time and iterations to accomplish? What if we can simply give ourselves the space to dream audaciously with a fair chance of achieving them?
2. S̳c̳r̳a̳p̳p̳y̳ ̳8̳1̳-̳y̳e̳a̳r̳-̳o̳l̳d̳ ̳w̳o̳m̳a̳n̳ ̳c̳o̳m̳p̳l̳e̳t̳e̳s̳ ̳h̳e̳r̳ ̳S̳e̳c̳o̳n̳d̳ ̳T̳o̳u̳g̳h̳ ̳M̳u̳d̳d̳e̳r̳ ̳R̳a̳c̳e̳ ̳o̳v̳e̳r̳ ̳h̳u̳g̳e̳ ̳o̳b̳s̳t̳a̳c̳l̳e̳s̳. Double Wow!! How many of us think, “It’s too late now…,” or, “I am too old for this…,” or, “This is how I am…”? We often give up even before we can start, isn’t it? We let the culturally defined norms dictate what we can and should do. We easily slip into age-defined labels and lifestyles. When was the last time you did something for the first time?
Given a choice, what news would you read and share?
